Police Operation in Charlotte Ends with Five Dead, Including Suspect
This isn’t a Moore County story, but the entire state of North Carolina mourns this tragedy. On Monday, April 29, a shootout occurred in Charlotte, involving a suspect and law enforcement officers from the CMPD and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. The confrontation occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of Galway Drive where members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, along with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) officers, were attempting to serve active felony warrants. The suspect, Terry Clark Hughes Jr., fired on the officers, leading to eight officers being shot and four fatalities. Hughes was also killed during the incident. Multiple law enforcement agencies are now involved in an ongoing investigation of the event. See details Sandhills Sentinel.
Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the four law enforcement officers lost on Monday.
Investigation of the Fire in Carthage Points to Arson and Murder
The fire in Carthage on Sunday April 28, which resulted in two fatalities, is now under investigation as a potential arson and murder case. The discovery of a gunshot wound on one of the victims and signs of accelerants used in the fire have led authorities to suspect deliberate criminal activity. The investigation continues, with no suspects currently in custody. See details CBS17.com.
