Moore County in State of Emergency

Moore County Department of Public Safety has declared a State of Emergency ahead of Tropical Depression Debby, effective yesterday, Wednesday August 7 through Friday August 9. Residents are advised to prepare for heavy rain, flooding, power outages, and property damage. Emergency preparedness includes assembling an emergency supplies kit and signing up for the county's Emergency Notification System for real-time updates.

Emergency Kit Essentials:

  • Non-perishable food and bottled water (1 gallon per person per day) to last three to seven days

  • Copies of insurance papers and personal identification sealed in a watertight plastic bag

  • First-aid kit and prescription medicines

  • Extra supplies for in-home oxygen-dependent patients to last 72-96 hours

  • Changes of clothes

  • Hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, bedding)

  • Cash or checkbook

  • NOAA battery-powered weather radio and flashlights

Moore County Opening Emergency Shelter

Moore County will open a shelter at Moore County Parks & Recreation in Carthage starting at noon on August 8, 2024. The shelter space is limited and should only be considered as a last option. The shelter accommodates domestic cats and dogs, and residents are urged to bring essential items for a 3-7 day stay. Address: 155 Hillcrest Park Lane Carthage NC, 28327

Moore County Schools are closed for both students and staff today, August 8th. All activities are cancelled.
