Rising Water Levels Prompt Voluntary Evacuation along Hwy 690

A voluntary evacuation was issued on Thursday for communities along NC Highway 690 due to rising water levels from Tropical Storm Debby. Communities most at risk are Riverview and Riverbend, which are situated near the Little River and Crains Creek. The Wood Lake Dam is currently experiencing erosion in its spillway, which may lead to the failure of the temporary dam. Moore County Hillcrest Park in Carthage is open as a shelter for those in need. Source: Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

New Moore County Courthouse Opens

The new Moore County courthouse opened on Tuesday this week. Occupants had been moving in on the days leading up to the official opening. Congratulations!

Traffic Stop in Aberdeen Leads to Drug Arrest of Unconscious Driver

A woman was found unconscious in her car at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 15-501 S in Aberdeen and was later arrested on drug charges. Heather Tucker, 37, of Laurel Hill, was the only occupant of the vehicle. After police discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia in plain view within the car, Tucker was charged with felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with a revoked license. She is currently being held without bond. See details SandhillsSentinel.com.
