Pfizer Announces Job Cuts at North Carolina Facilities

Pfizer is in the process of laying off approximately 210 workers at its Rocky Mount and Sanford facilities in eastern North Carolina. For some, their last day of work will be July 31, with actual termination occurring 60 days after. The company, a major employer in the region, cited a failed clinical trial for a muscular dystrophy treatment as a reason for some of the job cuts. Despite recent investments in its North Carolina operations, certain manufacturing operations will be permanently closed. For more details visit BusinessNC.com.

NCDOT Invests $1.8 Million in Short Line Rail Upgrades

The NCDOT Rail Division is investing $1.8 million to upgrade three short line railroads in North Carolina, matching investments from railroad companies. This funding will improve three bridges and 18 miles of track, enhancing freight rail capacity and reducing highway congestion.

Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railway will receive $762,148 of that investment money for track and bridge upgrades, and construction of rail sidings and transloading infrastructure along the Piedmont and Sandhills divisions in Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, and Stanly counties. The projects are part of a broader effort to maintain and improve the state's rail infrastructure. See more details SandhillsSentinel.com.

The Town of Cameron Town Hall will be closed July 29-August 2, 2024.
