Arson Suspected in Cookout Restaurant Fire on Highway 15-501

A fire in the restrooms of the Cookout Restaurant on US Highway 15-501 in Southern Pines was intentionally set, according to Fire Marshal Ken Skipper. The incident, which occurred Wednesday night, saw multiple fire departments responding and successfully containing the fire to the restroom area. Investigations by local fire and police departments are ongoing, and the public is encouraged to report any information about the incident to the Southern Pines Police Department at 910-692-2732. Woodlake Community Home Severely Damaged in Late-Night Blaze

A fire severely damaged a home on Loblolly Drive in the Woodlake community near Vass on Wednesday night. Thanks to operational smoke detectors, a family of three escaped safely. Firefighters battled the blaze, which destroyed the garage and caused extensive damage to the rest of the home. The Moore County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, and the American Red Cross is assisting the family. See more photos and video Sandhills Sentinel.
