Moore County Land Use Plan Committee Holds First Meeting
The Moore County Land Use Plan Steering Committee held its first meeting on July 9, focusing on introductions, discussing past and future growth, and emphasizing community involvement. Led by Robert Hayter and Larry Best, the committee aims to strategically guide the county’s future development. The next meeting is set for August 13. See details Sandhills Sentinel.
No Charges Filed in Aberdeen Accident that Killed Bicyclist
On February 10, 2024, at around 7:30 PM, Aberdeen Police responded to a collision on US 1 near W. Maple Ave involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Larry Darnella Cameron, 63, of Aberdeen, was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead despite EMS efforts. A detailed investigation by Aberdeen Police and a Traffic Crash Reconstructionist, supported by the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office, have found no fault with the driver. The Moore County District Attorney’s Office confirmed no charges would be filed, deeming the incident a tragic accident. See details MooreBreakingNewz.com.
Fox Tests Positive for Rabies in Whispering Pines
A sick and distressed fox in Whispering Pines tested positive for rabies after being euthanized and tested by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office Animal Center. The Whispering Pines Police Department urges residents to keep pets’ rabies vaccinations current and to report any sick or distressed animals. See details Sandhills Sentinel.

Sandhills Community College is implementing the One College model to streamline its organizational structure and provide a single point of contact for student advising. The initiative aims to prioritize students' needs and create clear pathways to employment.
