Pinehurst Resort Supports New Housing Initiative

Pinehurst Resort has joined forces with Habitat for Humanity of the North Carolina Sandhills to fund the construction of Sandhills Station, a new workforce housing community in Aberdeen. Through the "No. 10 is Open for Good" campaign, which began on June 10, 2024, during the first practice round of the U.S. Open, the resort offered foursomes at its new Pinehurst No. 10 golf course for $3,000 each. As of yesterday, June 28, all the rounds have been sold. The resort also pledged to match up to $100,000 of the proceeds.

Sandhills Station will feature 145 single-family homes and 130 apartments, emphasizing community engagement and providing essential housing solutions for local workers. Swift Action Contained Fire Near Home on NC Hwy 73

A major fire broke out on the 2700 block of NC Highway 73 early Wednesday morning, destroying a workshop and damaging a nearby garage. Quick response from eleven fire departments helped contain the blaze, preventing significant damage to a nearby home. Union Pines High School Among 60 NC Schools to Offer Drone Program

A new partnership between the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and Zipline is creating career opportunities for high school students in the Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) field. Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, over 60 high schools will offer a pathway program that prepares students for UAS careers, providing guaranteed interviews with Zipline upon completion. This initiative aims to meet the growing demand for skilled UAS professionals and offers a promising career path for graduates. See details Sandhills Sentinel.
