Announcement From the Aberdeen Police Department

The Aberdeen Police Department urges the community to lock car doors every night, remove valuables, and never leave keys or firearms in vehicles, especially unlocked ones. This follows a recent surge in neighborhood car break-ins.

Aberdeen Police Introduce 4-Way Stop to Curb South Street Traffic

South Street in Aberdeen, a common cut-through for non-local drivers, has seen persistent speeding issues despite police enforcement. To improve safety, the speed limit has been reduced to 20 mph, and a new 4-way stop has been added at the intersection with Glasgow Street. See details MooreBreakingNewz.com.

CVB Votes to Double Hotel Occupancy Tax for Tourism Enhancement

The Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area CVB has voted to increase the nightly hotel occupancy tax from 3% to 6%, aiming to generate $30.8 million for destination enhancement and $59.8 million for marketing over ten years. The tax increase, which affects all regulated overnight accommodations including hotels, motels, bed-and-breakfasts, and Airbnbs, will fund various community projects such as parks, cultural venues, and sports complexes. This tax will be paid by tourists, not local residents. The proposal will be reviewed by Moore County Commissioners in July. See details Sandhills Sentinel.

Pinehurst Native Hogan Windish Hits Four Homers, Sets RBI Record

Minor league baseball professional, Hogan Windish of Pinehurst, made history Tuesday night (June 25th) by hitting four home runs and driving in all nine runs for the Arkansas Travelers in a game against the Springfield Cardinals. This performance, which snapped a slump, placed him among the few players to achieve such a feat, with comparisons to a similar achievement by Mike Greenwell in 1996. See details abc11.com.

That Christmas, TEAM WORKZ served 225 meals at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen and donated winter clothing and food to those in need. These events marked the start of a growing tradition of support. Read the full story…
