NC By Train Introduces 'Open Express' for the U.S. Open

NC By Train (the state’s passenger rail service) will run a special "Open Express" service from Raleigh to Pinehurst for the U.S. Open from June 13-16. The train aims to provide a convenient, eco-friendly travel option, departing Raleigh and Cary at 7 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. and returning in the evening. Tickets, available on Amtrak’s website, must be purchased in advance. The initiative is a collaboration between NCDOT, Amtrak, Aberdeen Carolina & Western Railway, and the U.S. Golf Association. See details at Sandhills Sentinel.

New Initiative to Enhance Animal Care in Moore County Gains Support

At the Moore County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, the Moore County Commissioners supported a plan by the Sheriff’s Office Animal Services to add an in-house surgical suite and hire a full-time veterinarian. This initiative aims to reduce euthanasia rates, lower adoption costs, and reintroduce microchipping services. On-site veterinary care will cut costs and stress on the animals by eliminating the need to transport them for care. The proposal will be further discussed in the next meeting.
