Eyes on the Sky: April 8 Partial Solar Eclipse
Our area is poised to experience a partial solar eclipse on April 8, from approximately 1:55 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. NASA advises against direct solar observation without specialized viewing glasses. Local schools are planning special activities and alternative activies for those students wishing to opt out. All after-school activities will be indoors during the eclipse, and parents are urged to discuss eclipse safety with their children. See details Moore Breaking Newz.

Iconic Natural Sculpture Dismantled at Sandhills Community College
Patrick Dougherty's natural stick sculpture, “What Goes Around Comes Around,” installed in 2021 at the Sandhills Community College Horticultural Gardens, has been removed due to safety concerns stemming from its deterioration. The piece, admired by many, served as a significant attraction. The college, while saddened by the removal, emphasizes visitor safety as a priority. They also express gratitude to Dougherty, volunteers, and community supporters for their contributions. Looking forward, a new sculpture by Mike Roig will be installed this summer, dedicated to the recently retired director of the gardens, Jim Westman. See details Sandhills Sentinel.
