WARNING: Postpone Burning Until Conditions Improve
The state is currently facing a heightened risk of wildfires due to a dangerous mix of gusty winds, low relative humidity, and dry vegetative fuels. Officials from the N.C. Forestry Service are urging the public to postpone all outdoor burning until conditions improve.
The hunt for the glass pinecones is underway!

Surviving Pollen Season in Moore County
As Moore County wades into the depths of heavy pollen season, it's time to arm ourselves against the invisible, sneeze-inducing enemy. Yes, we're talking about pollen - nature's very own brand of confetti, except less festive and more...achoo-inducing. Fear not! With a few clever tricks up your sleeve, you can outsmart pollen and reclaim the spring season without having to live in a bubble.
1. Turn Your Home into a Pollen-Free Fortress
First up, declare your home a no-pollen zone. This means regular vacuuming with a device so powerful it could suck up a ghost if it had allergies. Don’t forget to dust with a damp cloth - pollen hates getting wet almost as much as cats do.
2. Befriend an Air Purifier
An air purifier can be your best friend during pollen season, especially one equipped with a HEPA filter. It's like having a bouncer at the door of your home, but for allergens. “Not on the list, pollen? Sorry, you can’t come in.”
3. Become a Pollen Weatherman
Keep an eye on the pollen forecast as if it’s your favorite soap opera. On high pollen count days, stay indoors. Think of it as nature’s way of telling you to catch up on your binge-watching.
4. Suit Up for the Outdoors
When venturing outside, dress like a pollen ninja. Sunglasses will protect your eyes not just from UV rays but from pollen's sneaky attacks. Upon returning home, change clothes and shower immediately to leave pollen at the door, wondering where you went.
5. Tame Your Garden
Your garden might be a secret pollen party spot. Opt for plants that don’t get too excited about spreading their pollen to the wind. Keep your grass short and weeds in check - think of it as giving your garden a good, stern talking-to about its pollen-producing behavior.
By following these tips with a dash of humor and a sprinkle of determination, residents of Moore County can not only survive but thrive during pollen season. Here's to a spring filled with laughter, clear sinuses, and enjoying the great outdoors (on low pollen count days, of course).
