Controlled Burn Escapes, Engulfs Four Homes in Flames
On Saturday, February 3, emergency services swiftly responded to a fire off J Burns Road, where four vacant mobile homes were ablaze due to a controlled burn gone awry. Local Moore County fire departments, law enforcement and the N.C. Forestry Service worked together to combat the fire, which had extended to nearby vegetation. A containment line was established to prevent further spread, but the operation was complicated by the need to extinguish several hidden fires. The incident highlights the risks associated with controlled burns. Source: Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue.

Moore County Luck Continues: Resident Claims $100K Lottery Prize
Gerald Lee from West End hit a significant jackpot by winning $100,000 from a $20 scratch-off ticket, part of the new $2,000,000 Diamond Deluxe game. After taxes, he took home $71,506. The game, which debuted in December, still has several major prizes up for grabs. Lee becomes the second Moore County resident to win the lottery within 1 month and the 4th to win within the past few months. See details Sandhills Sentinel.

North Carolina Launches Tri-Share Pilot to Ease Child Care Costs
North Carolina introduces Tri-Share, a two-year pilot program aimed at making child care more affordable through a cost-sharing model between businesses, employees, and the state. Selected Smart Start partnerships will facilitate this initiative in various counties, targeting families within specific income brackets.
Three local Smart Start partnerships were announced on Thursday, February 1, that will be facilitator hubs in the pilot. Partners for Children and Families of Moore County (serving Moore, Chatham, Cumberland, Hoke, Montgomery, Richmond, and Scotland counties) is one of those pilot partnerships. The program seeks to alleviate financial burdens on families, aid business retention efforts, and stabilize the state’s child care sector amidst financial challenges. See details at EDNC.org.
