Robbins License Plate Agency Set to Close, NCDMV Seeks New Contractor

The Robbins license plate agency, operated by Martha Boswell since 2019, will close on January 31 at 5 p.m. as the current contract ends. The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is accepting applications for a new contractor until February 8. In the meantime, nearby agencies in Troy, Sanford, Asheboro, and Siler City are available for vehicle-related services. The NCDMV also encourages using online services for various vehicle tasks, including tax payments and registration renewals. See full story Sandhills Sentinel.

Southern Pines Police Appeal for Footage to Solve Recent Car Thefts

The Southern Pines Police Department is investigating a series of car break-ins and thefts that took place in the Midsouth and Arboretum areas on Saturday night, January 27. They are requesting the public's assistance in reviewing security camera footage to help identify the culprits. The police are also reminding residents to secure their vehicles by locking them and not leaving keys inside to prevent such incidents. Source: Southern Pines Police Dept.

Reminder: Rising Mail Theft and Check Fraud

We featured this story last week, but it’s worth repeating. The Southern Pines Police Department has warned residents about an increase in mail theft from roadside mailboxes, with a particular focus on stolen checks. These checks are at risk of being altered and fraudulently cashed. The police are urging the community to report any suspicious activity and are providing tips on how to protect mail, such as promptly collecting mail, using online bill payments, and writing checks with gel ink pens that are less susceptible to alteration.

Update: According to Southern Pines Police, the vehicle pictured has been seen in the area where thefts have occurred. If you have video from home security cameras or know who this vehicle belongs to, contact the Southern Pines Police Department at 910-692-7031. Source: Southern Pines Police Department

Wealth Advisor Insider Nathan Cherry: An Important Question to Ask Your Bank

Nathan Cherry, Private Wealth Advisor

Hicks & Associates 910-692-9014
510 NW Broad St. Southern Pines

Most people have cash sitting in the bank. It’s in a safe account like a savings account earning virtually nothing. Meanwhile, interest rates are high and the potential for earnings is there.

To realize better interest rates, you just have to ask your bank an important question.

The question you will need to ask is whether the bank offers a high yield savings account or a Money Market option. Most banks have these options available and are currently offering higher rates than a normal savings account.

Banks will not necessarily tell existing customers about their high yield or money market options. You may be missing out on additional interest earnings by not asking. Asking this one question could see your hard-earned cash accrue some interest in 2024. An account with $50k in it could yield enough interest to pay property taxes, cover a vacation, or put spending money in your pocket. Seems worth a conversation with your bank.  Hicks & Associates Website.
