Moore County Airport Gears Up for U.S. Open with Major Upgrades

The Moore County Airport is undertaking extensive upgrades in anticipation of the U.S. Open Championship this summer. These improvements include the construction of new hangars, resurfacing of the main runway, updating taxiways, and the installation of state-of-the-art LED lighting. The terminal building is also receiving a facelift with necessary renovations. These developments are in response to an expected surge in air traffic, with estimates suggesting around 2,000 flights and over 5,000 passengers during the championship week.

Post-championship, the airport looks forward to further advancements. A significant grant of $5 million from the NCDOT Division of Aviation is set to fund future expansions and technological upgrades, in line with the airport's vision for handling next-generation aircraft technologies. These initiatives underscore the airport's critical role in regional economic development, as highlighted by Senator Tom McInnis. See extensive details at Sandhills Sentinel.
