Cold Temps on the Way! Be Prepared
As winter tightens its grip in Moore County, we're bracing ourselves for some cold temperatures in the coming week. With overnight lows plummeting into the twenties, it's crucial to prepare for the chilly days and nights ahead. Here are some essential steps to take to ensure you're ready for the frigid nights:
1. Protect Your Pipes: One of the most critical tasks is to prevent frozen pipes. Insulate any exposed pipes and disconnect garden hoses. Allow faucets to drip slightly to keep the water flowing, reducing the risk of freezing.
2. Winterize Your Garden: If you have sensitive plants, consider covering them with blankets or special frost cloth to shield them from the harsh cold. Also, bring potted plants indoors or into a garage.
3. Check Home Insulation: Make sure your home is well-insulated. Seal any gaps or cracks around windows and doors to keep the cold air out and the warm air in. This not only keeps you cozy but also saves on heating costs.
4. Prepare for Power Outages: In extreme cold, power outages can happen. Have emergency supplies like blankets, flashlights, and non-perishable food on hand. Keep your phone charged, and have a backup power source, like a generator, if possible.
5. Layer Up: Don't forget to dress warmly when going outside. Layering your clothing helps trap heat and keep you comfortable in the low temperatures.
6. Protect Your Pets: Don't overlook your furry friends. Make sure they have a warm shelter and access to fresh water, as water bowls can freeze quickly.
