Keep those Trees Hydrated! Christmas Tree Care 101

Watering your live Christmas tree is crucial for maintaining its freshness and reducing the risk of fire hazards. When you first bring your tree home, it's essential to make a fresh cut at the base of the trunk, removing about half an inch of wood. This cut helps the tree absorb water more effectively. Place the tree in a sturdy stand that can hold at least one gallon of water, and fill it immediately. Your tree will drink the most water within the first 24 hours of being cut and placed in water, but it's important to maintain a consistent water level throughout the holiday season.

Check the water level daily, ensuring it never goes below the base of the tree. A well-watered tree should have supple needles that are difficult to pull off and do not break easily when bent.

To determine if your tree is becoming too dry, watch for signs like needles falling off excessively when the tree is touched or moved. The needles should be flexible and not brittle. If they start to look dull, feel dry, or snap easily, the tree is not getting enough water.

A dry tree can become a fire hazard, so it's important to keep it well-watered and remove it from your home if it becomes excessively dry. Regularly checking the water level and the condition of the needles will help ensure your Christmas tree remains a safe and beautiful part of your holiday celebrations.

Moore County's Strategy to Combat Highway 690 Hazards

The dangerous conditions of the Lobelia Road/Highway 690 corridor in Vass, North Carolina, have been highlighted following a series of fatal accidents. In response, the Moore County Commissioners, recognizing the need for action, have decided to join the Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (FAMPO). This decision, influenced by the potential benefits of collaboration and access to alternative funding and planning resources, aims to prioritize the safety and improvement of this high-risk road. Despite some limitations for smaller jurisdictions, the overall benefits led to a unanimous vote in favor of joining FAMPO, marking a proactive step towards enhancing road safety in Moore County.
