No Arrests in Year-Old Moore County Substation Attack
Nearly a year after the Moore County substation attacks left thousands without power, the case remains unsolved despite extensive investigative efforts. Sheriff Ronnie Fields reaffirmed the ongoing nature of the investigation, which includes exploring links to hate groups and analyzing DNA from related banners. A significant reward is offered for information leading to an arrest.
On December 3, 2022 over 45,000 customers were affected by this deliberate attack, which also led to a fatality. The power outage tragically led to the death of 87-year-old Karin Zoanelli, whose medical equipment failed during the blackout, prompting the NC Medical Examiner’s Office to rule her death a homicide. After Moore County Substation Attack, NC Ramps Up Legal Consequences
A new law, prompted by last year's Moore County substation attack, will enact stricter penalties for damaging critical infrastructure. Starting this week, such attacks will be classified as class C felonies, with potential for significant prison time and fines. The legislation aims to deter future attacks, amidst ongoing concerns about security at such facilities. See full story CBS17.com.

Free Shuttle Service for Village of Pinehurst Christmas Tree Lighting
Kirk Tours & Limousine is offering a free shuttle service for the Christmas Tree Lighting event in Pinehurst on December 1. The shuttle will run from 5 to 8 pm, transporting attendees from the Cannon Park Community Center at 210 Rattlesnake Trail to downtown Pinehurst, ensuring easy parking and accessibility for the event.
Pinehurst Area CVB Secures Top Honors for Creative Tourism Campaigns
The Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau won two awards at the NCTIA conference for their innovative tourism campaigns. The Platinum Award celebrated their "Pinecone Pathways Program," which involved hiding glass pinecones on trails, drawing visitors statewide. The "Moore Miracles for the Holidays" campaign, developed in response to a local power outage crisis, earned the Gold Award. This campaign supported local businesses during the holiday season and included a substantial marketing initiative, significantly benefiting the local economy and community engagement.
