Joint Operation Nets Major Drug Bust in North Carolina; 10 Arrested
From the Moore County Sheriff’s Office: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, ten individuals were arrested on November 15, 2023, for their involvement in a large-scale operation distributing fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
This successful culmination of a two-year undercover investigation was led by the combined efforts of the Moore County, Montgomery County, and Stanly County Sheriff’s Offices, along with Federal authorities. The operation resulted in the seizure of significant quantities of illegal drugs, including 45 kilograms of fentanyl, 28.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, 17 kilograms of cocaine, and 35 firearms.
The coordinated efforts of local, state, and federal agencies proved crucial in dismantling this criminal network. Congratulations to law enforcement.

Feasting Through History: Five Facts About Thanksgiving Traditions
Thanksgiving is a holiday rich in history and tradition, celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Here are five interesting historical facts about Thanksgiving and its traditions.
The Origins of Thanksgiving: The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Native Americans in Plymouth, Massachusetts. This event was a three-day harvest festival and is considered the origin of today's Thanksgiving holiday. The menu was vastly different from today's traditional feast, likely including venison, seafood, and a variety of native vegetables and fruits.
Thanksgiving's Journey to a National Holiday: It wasn't until 1863, during the Civil War, that Thanksgiving was proclaimed a national holiday by President Abraham Lincoln. This was largely due to the persistent campaigning of Sarah Josepha Hale, a magazine editor who wrote letters to five different presidents over 17 years.
Football and Thanksgiving – A Centuries-Old Tradition: The custom of watching football on Thanksgiving dates back to 1876, just a few years after the sport was invented. The first intercollegiate football championship was played on Thanksgiving Day, and since then, football has become an integral part of the holiday celebration in the United States.
The Presidential Turkey Pardon: A more modern tradition, starting in 1989 with President George H.W. Bush, is the pardoning of a Thanksgiving turkey by the U.S. President. While presidents before Bush had received turkeys as gifts, he was the first to officially spare one, and this quirky tradition has been upheld by every president since.
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Beginning in 1924, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has become an iconic holiday event. Initially featuring live animals from the Central Park Zoo, the parade now showcases giant balloons, floats, and performances, drawing millions of viewers both in person and on television.
