We know there are some awesome cooks and bakers out there in Moore County and we are hoping that some of you will share your favorite Thanksgiving recipes with the rest of Moore County! We want to feature your recipe plus you or the loved one you learned the recipe from. Over the next few days, look for the recipes from our very own Moore County residents!


THANKSGIVING TIP: If your turkey is in the freezer and you want to cook it for this Thanksgiving, now is the time to take it out and put it in the refrigerator to thaw. It takes hours and hours to thaw a whole frozen turkey!
Thanksgiving Town Closings
The Town of Aberdeen Administrative Offices will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24, in celebration of Thanksgiving. Additionally, there will be no garbage or recycling collection on these dates. Collection services will resume on the next regularly scheduled day.
The Southern Pines Public Library will close at 5pm Wednesday Nov.22 and will reopen Monday Nov. 27.
The Town of Carthage Town Hall will be closed the week of Thanksgiving beginning Monday November 20 through Friday November 24 due to both the Thanksgiving holiday and some minor renovation. The Town Hall will reopen Monday November 27.

Former Home Care Nurse Charged in Connection with Robbery of Disabled Man
A woman, identified as 26-year-old Valiyah Valicia Kelly from Southern Pines, has been charged with felony common law robbery. The charges stem from an incident where a disabled man reported being robbed by a man shortly after his former home care nurse, Kelly, unexpectedly visited him at his home in Carthage. The Moore County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kelly in connection with the October home invasion. She was taken to the Moore County Detention Center and held on a $25,000 secured bond, with a court appearance scheduled for November 29.

Woman Charged in Hit-and-Run Involving Pedestrian on Sandpit Road
Hailey Beverly Smith, 42, has been charged in a hit-and-run accident that occurred Friday afternoon November 17 on Sandpit Road near Aberdeen. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol charged her with fleeing the scene of an accident with serious injury or death, failure to report the accident, and failure to reduce speed, resulting in a $6,000 bond. The victim was released from UNC Hospital the same day. The incident involved a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle's mirror and subsequently airlifted to a trauma center. The investigation is still underway.

Wind-Rekindled Fire Destroys Shed Near Woodlake Country Club
A small fire, initially thought to be extinguished, was reignited by strong winds on Saturday morning November 18, leading to the complete destruction of a shed near the Woodlake Country Club outside Vass. The fire originated from leftover coals behind a home on Eddie M Lane and quickly spread due to windy conditions. See full story, Sandhills Sentinel.

Today is the Day! New Provision ACE Now Open
The old location of ACE Hardware closed it’s doors Sunday afternoon, November 19. Opening today is the new store, Provision ACE, located at 445 Capital Dr. in Southern Pines, behind the old store. This is something the entire community has been excited about for some time. Congratulations Provision ACE!

Second Sheetz Store Underway in Moore County
The construction of a new Sheetz store in Moore County has started, involving the demolition of an existing structure at North Poplar Street and US Highway 1 in Southern Pines. The project, led by Trident Marketing, the property owner, also includes the purchase of an adjoining lot for expansion. The site has now been cleared. This store will be the second Sheetz location in Moore County.
