Lucky Dog Gets Rescued from Fiery Car at Walmart

In a heroic act Wednesday afternoon, Aberdeen firefighters saved a dog from a burning vehicle in the Walmart parking lot. The firefighters had to break the windows of the smoke-engulfed Mitsubishi to rescue the trapped dog. Post-rescue, they administered oxygen to the dog and transported it to an emergency veterinary hospital for overnight observation and a comprehensive check-up. The fire was effectively extinguished by the team. The vehicle's owner, who was shopping in Walmart at the time, remained unharmed. See full story.

New Playground Equipment Coming to Aberdeen Lake Park

The existing playground facilities at Aberdeen Lake Park are set to be dismantled in the week following Thanksgiving. The process of setting up the new equipment is planned to commence in the first week of December. The Park will be closed during this time. Subject to favorable weather conditions, the plan is to have the new playground equipment installed and available for use by the end of December.

Pinehurst Village Council Seeks New Member

The Village of Pinehurst is set to appoint a new Councilmember following the recent election of Councilmember Patrick Pizzella as Mayor, leaving a vacancy in the Council. In line with North Carolina law, the Village Council is tasked with appointing a resident to fill this position and complete the remainder of Mr. Pizzella's term, which is due to expire in early December 2025.

Over the next few weeks, the Village Council will be open to receiving applications from Pinehurst residents who are interested in taking on the role of Councilmember. These candidates will be interviewed in a forthcoming public meeting. The decision on who will fill the vacant seat will be determined by a simple majority vote among the current Council members.

Residents of Pinehurst who wish to be considered for this position are encouraged to obtain an application form from Village Clerk Shannon Konstantinou. They can contact her at 910-295-1900 or via email at [email protected]. Completed applications should be returned to Shannon Konstantinou, either through email or in person at the address 395 Magnolia Rd.

The deadline for submitting applications for the Village Council appointment is set for 5 p.m. on Monday, December 11. This presents a unique opportunity for engaged and dedicated residents to play a significant role in the governance and future direction of the Village of Pinehurst.
