Both Aberdeen and Pinehurst Named as Two in the Top 13 Best Small Towns in North Carolina for Retirees by WorldAtlas.com

If you are a resident of Moore County, then you understand the appeal of the lifestyle in our community. WorldAtlas.com has recognized both Aberdeen and Pinehurst as two of the best small towns in North Carolina for retirement. Their selection is based in part on the vibrant downtowns, the abundance of cultural festivals and numerous outdoor activities to choose from.

Pinehurst Village Council Seeks New Member

The Village of Pinehurst is set to appoint a new Councilmember following the recent election of Councilmember Patrick Pizzella as Mayor, leaving a vacancy in the Council. In line with North Carolina law, the Village Council is tasked with appointing a resident to fill this position and complete the remainder of Mr. Pizzella's term, which is due to expire in early December 2025.

Over the next few weeks, the Village Council will be open to receiving applications from Pinehurst residents who are interested in taking on the role of Councilmember. These candidates will be interviewed in a forthcoming public meeting. The decision on who will fill the vacant seat will be determined by a simple majority vote among the current Council members.

Residents of Pinehurst who wish to be considered for this position are encouraged to obtain an application form from Village Clerk Shannon Konstantinou. They can contact her at 910-295-1900 or via email at [email protected]. Completed applications should be returned to Shannon Konstantinou, either through email or in person at the address 395 Magnolia Rd.

The deadline for submitting applications for the Village Council appointment is set for 5 p.m. on Monday, December 11. This presents a unique opportunity for engaged and dedicated residents to play a significant role in the governance and future direction of the Village of Pinehurst.

Town of Aberdeen Offices Closing for Thanksgiving

The Town of Aberdeen Administrative Offices will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24, in celebration of Thanksgiving. Additionally, there will be no garbage or recycling collection on these dates. Collection services will resume on the next regularly scheduled day.

Moore County Has a Powerball Winner!

According to CBS17 News, two North Carolina players struck it big in Monday night's Powerball drawing, each winning $100,000. The North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed that one of these winning tickets was purchased in Moore County at Quality Mart, located at 915 Old U.S. Highway 1 in Southern Pines. The other ticket was won through an online play.

Both tickets successfully matched four white balls and the Power Ball, initially winning $50,000. However, with the Power Play option, their winnings doubled to $100,000.
