Driver Arrested Following Three-Vehicle Collision Near Carthage Intersection

A driver was arrested on Sunday evening November 12th after causing a three-vehicle collision at the intersection of U.S. 15-501 and N.C. 24-27 near Carthage. The accident occurred when a Saturn car rear-ended a Nissan pickup truck, which then collided with a Honda passenger car. Despite significant damage to the vehicles, no injuries were reported. Residential Fire in Southern Pines

A Southern Pines resident was hospitalized following a fire at their home on Sunday. The residence, located in the 600 block of South Hardin Street, was a single-story building housing five occupants. The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. Read Sandhills Sentinel Full Story.

Pinecrest Student-Athletes Commit to Collegiate Sports in Signing Ceremony

At a ceremony in Moore Gym on Wednesday, five distinguished Pinecrest student-athletes signed their letters of intent, marking their commitment to continue their sports at the collegiate level. Celebrations are in order for Kamden Lewis, who will join the soccer team at Lees-McRae College; Jacey Olsen, set to play volleyball at Anderson University; Weston Thomson, committing to lacrosse at Barton College; Bryant "BK" Kimbrell, who will be part of the baseball team at Western Carolina University; and Allie Hirst, who will pursue lacrosse at Longwood University.

Southern Pines Road Closures This Week

This upcoming week, the Town of Southern Pines will experience several road closures and activities in public rights of way:

  • Traffic will be monitored at the intersections of Knoll Road with Steeplechase, Paddock, Highland View, and Hunter Trail.

  • An installation of underground fiber optics lines by a utility provider will take place in the rights of way across Knollwood Heights.

  • There will be a road closure at 160 Piney Lane.

  • Another road closure is scheduled for the 600 block of N. Hale Street.
