James Dunmore, Accused of Murdering Allisha Watts, Avoids Death Penalty
James Dunmore, accused of murdering Allisha Watts of Moore County, will not face the death penalty in his trial. Prosecutors, presenting only cellphone evidence, decided against seeking the death penalty. Dunmore appeared in a court hearing where his attorney sought a lower bond based on his financial situation. However, the judge set his bond at $1 million, with conditions for house arrest and electronic monitoring if he posts bail. The official cause of Watts' death has not been released, and her remains were found a month after her disappearance near the Montgomery County line.
First Bank Food Drive
First Bank is organizing its largest food drive from November 1 to November 30, 2023, involving all its branches and subsidiaries, with about 1400 employees across over 120 locations. Named the Power of Good Food Drive, it honors the late Sharon Shaw Adams, a highly esteemed First Bank associate who passed away in January 2023 and was known for her commitment to combating food insecurity. CEO Mike Mayer highlights this event as a significant effort, especially as the bank expands into new markets. Employees and the public are encouraged to participate, with collection points at all First Bank locations accepting various food items. The drive aims to continue Sharon's legacy and make a positive impact in the communities across the Carolinas.
Brooklyn Pickle Scheduled to Open Tuesday Nov.14
Brooklyn Pickle, a beloved Syracuse eatery famed for its deli sandwiches and homemade soups, is set to bring its flavors to the South with a new outlet opening in Southern Pines on November 14.
Over the past 48 years, Brooklyn Pickle has grown from its original Syracuse Eastside location to include branches on the Westside, in Liverpool, and Utica, Central New York. The Southern Pines expansion marks a significant step for the family-owned business, originally founded by Ken Kowadla. His son, who now helms the establishment, expressed enthusiasm for the new location, citing the appealing local atmosphere, weather, and community, as well as the unique offering Brooklyn Pickle brings to the area. This move continues the legacy of the Kowadla family, introducing their distinct culinary experience to a new region.
The restaurant will feature seating for 40 guests indoors and an additional 40 on the patio, perfect for enjoying the pleasant North Carolina climate.

Prudential Initiative Supports Military Spouses with Financial Empowerment
In a gesture of support for military families, Prudential Financial has launched an initiative that shines a spotlight on military spouses, aligning with the spirit of Veterans Day. This program is a testament to the resilience of these individuals and recognizes their often-unheralded role within the military community.
Prudential's collaboration with Twelve Million Plus, a digital community fostered by Instant Teams Marketplace, marks a significant stride in providing financial education and resources to military spouses. This partnership leverages Prudential Stages, the company's innovative digital platform, to offer a suite of financial planning tools and expert guidance.
The Twelve Million Plus app is more than just a resource; it's a community builder, offering a space for over 12 million military spouses to find support and resources tailored to their unique needs. Prudential's involvement brings a wealth of knowledge and financial advice to this vibrant community, aiming to be a trusted partner in their financial journey.

Members of Twelve Million Plus will benefit from the ability to connect with virtual advisors and access Prudential Stages, which has been guiding individuals since January 2023, particularly in preparing for retirement. The platform's comprehensive approach helps users understand their retirement outlook with detailed projections, a crucial resource for families who often face financial uncertainty due to the nature of military life.
In addition to the digital tools, Prudential's commitment to financial education will manifest in a variety of formats, including online articles, video content, and live seminars. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by Prudential to support the military community, which has seen the company provide financial wellness seminars through its Prudential Pathways programs to several military-affiliated organizations.
As we approach Veterans Day, Prudential's initiative is a powerful acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by military spouses. It's a step forward in ensuring that the stability and financial security they provide for their families are recognized and supported, paving the way for their personal and professional growth.
