CVB Greenlights $821,000 to Boost Moore County Tourism
On October 24, the Pinehurst Southern Pines, Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) board of directors unanimously decided to distribute $821,000 in grants to six Moore County entities through the organization's One-Time Project Fund (OTPF). This marks the first occasion in the CVB's 36-year legacy that it has introduced a tourism-focused grant initiative. This program was suggested earlier in the year following a surplus in the CVB's funds, making up to $1 million accessible for the OTPF.
The CVB reviewed 10 grant applications with a special committee of five members. They approved six grants, focusing on projects like new builds, expansions, and renovations with a minimum budget of $50,000. Priority was given to projects enhancing visitor experience, attracting those from over 50 miles away, and those ready to commence. The OTPF aims to promote capital projects that showcase Moore County and attract distant visitors, enhancing the county's economy and tourism. Grant recipients must provide expense receipts by the end of 2024 to receive funds, and funded projects should credit the CVB.
The awards are as follows:
Town of Cameron: Memorial Park Revitalization and Mural Creation ($54,000)
Site Improvements at the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities ($57,000)
Lighting Project at Sandhills Community College for the Sandhills Bogeys Baseball Complex ($75,000)
Town of Southern Pines: Carriage House event space building inside the Whitehall Tract ($185,000)
Town of Southern Pines: New Skate Park ($200,000)
Town of Aberdeen: Enhancements for Sports Tourism at the Aberdeen Ransdell Sportsplex ($250,000)

Six More Prestigious USGA Golf Tournaments Coming to Pinehurst
In the wake of the 2020 announcements of "Golf House Pinehurst" and Pinehurst Resort & Country Club's designation as the inaugural U.S. Open Anchor Site, the USGA has shared that Pinehurst will be the backdrop for six more prestigious USGA tournaments in the upcoming years. The list includes the 2027 U.S. Women’s Amateur, 2032 U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior, 2038 U.S. Amateur, 2044 U.S. Women’s Amateur, and an upcoming U.S. Adaptive Open. Pinehurst No. 2 is set as the course for the 2027 and 2044 U.S. Women’s Amateurs and the 2038 U.S. Amateur, with locations for the other events to be decided later.
This will be the first time Pinehurst will host the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior. The resort previously held the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1989 and will see the U.S. Amateur for the fourth time in 2038. Pinehurst is also scheduled to host the U.S. Open multiple times up to 2047, with a standout year in 2029 featuring both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Women’s Open Championships.
