Streets Closed Due To Dangerous Natural Gas Leak in Aberdeen
At approximately 1:45pm on Tuesday, October 24, Aberdeen town officials issued a warning about a hazardous situation due to a natural gas leak near 1003 North Poplar Street. Emergency Services, along with Piedmont Natural Gas, were at the site managing the situation. As a safety precaution, traffic was halted in a two-block radius around the leak. Residents were advised to avoid the vicinity.
Later in the day, Aberdeen town officials announced that both the 800 and 900 blocks of North Poplar Street, as well as Cedar Avenue and Cedar Court, had been reopened, allowing residents to return. However, the 1000 block of North Poplar Street remains closed as of Tuesday night. Residents are urged to steer clear of this area until further updates.
Two-Car Collision in West End Tuesday afternoon
A two-car collision occurred outside West End on Tuesday afternoon when a Ford Expedition failed to stop at the Dowd Road intersection and was hit by a Buick Cascada convertible. The crash resulted in the Expedition overturning. The solo occupant of the Cascada was airlifted with non-critical injuries, while the Expedition's passengers, including three children, appeared unharmed. The Expedition's driver was cited for not stopping at a stop sign. The incident temporarily closed the Harris Crossroads junction for cleanup.
Sandhills' 2023 Nursing Grads Achieve Stellar 100% on Brand-New Exam
The 2023 Nursing graduates from Sandhills Community College have certainly made their mark with an impressive 100% pass rate on the new NextGen NCLEX exam. For 57 years, Sandhills has been offering a robust nursing program that annually welcomes between 60 to 75 students. Those who conquer this program get the chance to take on the NextGen exam, a crucial step towards becoming licensed Registered Nurses in North Carolina. This year's graduates didn’t just meet the expected standards; they set a new benchmark, especially considering they were among the first to face the newly introduced exam format from April 2023. Kudos to them, and here's to a bright future in nursing!
