Man Accused of Murdering Allisha Watts Absent from Scheduled Court Appearance

James Dunmore, who faces charges in connection with the murder of Moore County's Allisha Watts earlier this year, was not present in court on Monday, even though he was listed on the administrative docket.

Richard DeVayne from WCNC Charlotte conveyed that Dunmore could be summoned at any moment for administrative matters, like case extensions. The next date for Dunmore's appearance concerning the Watts case remains uncertain.

Morganton Road Daytime Lane Closures

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has announced that paving activities will be conducted on the expanded segments of 15-501 and Morganton Road. As a result, there will be daytime lane closures in effect until Monday, November 6th. Drivers should anticipate delays and, if feasible, are advised to steer clear of the area during this period.

Broadband Expansion in Moore County

Moore County's Board of Commissioners approved further funding to expand broadband access to rural areas. The North Carolina GREAT program, in collaboration with Brightspeed and Charter Communications, aims to offer high-speed internet to areas currently lacking it. Brightspeed previously secured a $4 million state grant, with Moore County contributing $500,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). The collaboration with Charter seeks to further enhance coverage, bringing connectivity to an additional 1,459 mostly residential addresses. Charter's proposal, which includes a $10,000 county contribution from ARPA, was unanimously approved. Efforts are ongoing to create a map showing the addresses set to benefit, especially in areas between Robbins and Seven Lakes.

Cameron Lumber Spill Disrupts Traffic and Damages Pickup

In Cameron, a semi-truck carrying lumber shed its load near the McNeil Street railroad tracks on Monday. The dislodged lumber primarily hit a pickup truck, whose occupants were hospitalized. The incident caused considerable damage to the pickup and the railroad's warning arm, leading to CSX halting train operations. Both the railroad and Carthage Street were temporarily closed. The cause of the spill is under investigation by the State Highway Patrol, and the semi-truck's driver was unharmed.
