VOP Residents - Look for your Neighborhood Advisory Committee Representative Postcards

What is the Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC)? The Neighborhood Advisory Committee (NAC) consists of volunteer representatives from various Pinehurst neighborhoods. Their primary role is to relay information, highlight concerns, and work with the Village Council, staff, and local residents to find solutions that enhance the living standards in all neighborhoods.

Committee Objectives:

  • Foster open communication between committee members and the neighborhoods they stand for.

  • Share summaries of discussions and presentations from the monthly NAC meetings with the community.

  • Gather feedback and opinions from residents using effective communication channels.

  • Identify and discuss patterns in residents' views to aid the Village Government in fulfilling its commitment to improving quality of life.

  • Adhere to the North Carolina Public Records and Open Meetings Law.

The NAC will comprise one delegate from each of the 20 neighborhoods as outlined in the NAC Neighborhood Map. These members must be permanent residents of the neighborhoods they represent. Their selection will be based on recommendations from a panel consisting of the Village Manager, Village Assistant Managers, and Village Clerk, and the final appointment will be made by the Village Council. You should receive postcards soon letting you know the name of your neighborhood representative.

Downtown Park in Southern Pines Closed for Resurfacing

Be aware that the Downtown Park in Southern Pines is having a little work done - some resurfacing - starting Sunday, October 22 and continuing through Sunday, October 29.  

Oak Grove Technologies in Hoffman to Host Raptor Race Drone Challenge

Oak Grove Technologies Training Center in Hoffman will host the Raptor Race Drone Challenge on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event, open to all skill levels, has an entry fee of $15 and offers a total of $1,000 in cash prizes across two categories: open civilian and active duty military. Pilots will race drones through obstacles, viewing the race via special goggles, while spectators can watch on large screen TVs. The event aims to promote interest in drone racing and technology. Oak Grove also educates soldiers on drone basics.

Driver Hospitalized After Utility Pole Crash in Southern Pines

On Friday, October 20, a motorist crashed into a utility pole in downtown Southern Pines and was taken to Moore Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The accident, which occurred near West Pennsylvania Avenue and South Bennett Street, resulted in the pole partially breaking. The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. Although initially assessed by Duke Energy, the pole appears to be linked to internet services, and no outages have been reported.
