Homeward Kitchen Set to Open in December
This December, Moore County residents can look forward to the opening of Homeward Kitchen, the fresh fast-casual dining concept by Golden Coral. Taking over the space previously occupied by Chick-fil-A, Homeward Kitchen just may become a new favorite in the community.
Located at 10735 US 15-501 in Southern Pines, North Carolina, the revamped restaurant will offer a variety of dining options, including dine-in, take-out, and a drive-thru service. Designed with today's bustling lifestyle in mind, Homeward Kitchen promises "slow cooked, served fast" meals that are ideal for busy families.
The restaurant's interior is airy and welcoming, boasting two dining sections, a dedicated space for online and third-party pickups, and a drive-thru for those in a hurry. For larger gatherings, patrons can opt for family-sized servings to enjoy at home.
While the Southern Pines branch is set to debut in December, Homeward Kitchen has aspirations to branch out to other locations in the near future.
The menu at Homeward Kitchen is a tribute to timeless family recipes. Diners can expect dishes like a 12-hour Slow-Cooked Pot Roast paired with Homestyle Vegetables, Fried Chicken, a hearty Meatloaf Sandwich, handcrafted Cajun Mac & Cheese Balls, and Fried Green Tomatoes. There will be a range of indulgent sides and desserts such as Mac & Cheese, Coleslaw, Mashed Potatoes, and Banana Pudding. For the early risers, the breakfast menu features generous Breakfast Sandwiches and Bowls, Overnight Oats, Breakfast Bakes, and a selection of Costa Coffee beverages.
Sandhills Community College is 60!
This year marks the 60th anniversary of Sandhills Community College. Visit Boyd Library on campus to take a nostalgic journey through its history, showcased by magazine excerpts and photographs from the archives.
The college was chartered in 1963 and officially began its operations on October 1, 1965. It holds the distinction of being the first comprehensive community college established as a result of legislation passed by the 1963 General Assembly of North Carolina.
Before moving to its current location, the college operated from various temporary locations in Southern Pines. The administrative offices were notably located above Patches Department Store. By September 1966, the college shifted to its present-day location.
Sandhills Community College offers 34 two-year Associate in Applied Science degrees and was the first community college in the nation to guarantee the competence of its graduates. It also provides continuing education opportunities for residents of Moore and Hoke Counties.
Happy Birthday Sandhills Community College! Thank you for all you do for Moore County communities.

Moore County Unveils Replicas of America's Founding Documents
Moore County has unveiled a permanent "Charters of Freedom" display at the County Courthouse in Carthage, featuring replicas of America's foundational documents: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Civil Rights amendments.
The dedication ceremony, held Wednesday Oct. 18, included performances by the Union Pines High School drum line and the national anthem sung by Miss Moore County, Callie McIntyre.
The exhibit, donated by Foundation Forward, was inspired by a visit to the National Archives in Washington, D.C. by the foundation's founder, Vance Patterson. The robust display includes a time capsule with letters from local officials. Patterson emphasized the exhibit's educational value and urged families to visit.
This display is the 49th of its kind in North Carolina, with Foundation Forward aiming to establish more across the country. The project was partly funded by selling engraved bricks to residents. The exhibit is located at 102 Monroe Street.
