Update on Homicide Investigation in Aberdeen

On October 8, 2023 deputies responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence in Aberdeen near Sand Pit Rd. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a resident at the targeted home had been shot during the incident and subsequently succumbed to their injuries.

Sheriff's investigators are currently piecing together the sequence of events and believe that one of the individuals involved was shot by the homeowner in self-defense. A juvenile, who sustained a gunshot wound during the incident, was rushed to a medical facility for critical medical care.

At this stage of the investigation, the identities of those involved are being withheld. The Moore County Sheriff's Office is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist in the investigation. Moped Rider Airlifted Following Collision on U.S. Highway 1 near Vass

Monday evening, a moped rider was critically injured in a collision on U.S. Highway 1 near Vass. The incident occurred when a pickup truck struck the moped from behind, causing it to veer off the road and into a ditch. The truck driver called 911 and stayed with the injured rider until emergency crews arrived. Due to the extent of the injuries, a medevac helicopter was called to airlift the patient to the UNC trauma center. The Highway Patrol is currently investigating the accident.
