Bicyclist Airlifted After Collision with Truck in Southern Pines
Tragically, a bicyclist was hit by a pickup truck in Southern Pines at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday. He was airlifted to a trauma center after being rescued from under the truck. The truck driver was checked and released at the scene. Witnesses rushed to help before emergency crews arrived. The accident is under investigation, and caused a temporary diversion of U.S. 1 southbound traffic. The bicyclist's condition is not known at this time.
New Overhills Putting Course Lights Up Southern Pines Golf Club
Southern Pines Golf Club, championed by the Miller, McGowan, and Tharani families, proudly introduces its newest gem: the Overhills 18-hole putting course. Designed by the esteemed Kyle Franz, this course is a tribute to the timeless golf legacies of legends like Old Tom Morris of St. Andrews and Donald Ross of Pinehurst.
Franz, known for his meticulous restoration of the resort's trio of Donald Ross courses, has infused the spirit of these classic designs into Overhills.
The sprawling 22,000 square foot putting green, open daily, is equipped with modern amenities like solar lighting and a music system, setting the stage for memorable events.
This latest venture is a testament to the revitalization efforts at Southern Pines Golf Club. Following Franz's 2021 restoration of the historic 1906 Donald Ross course, the club is gearing up for the addition of the course-side cottages which have already been given the green light by the Town of Southern Pines.
Death of 4-yr Old in Car Crash Sept.26 Involved Improper Car Seat Use and Installation
Investigators have indicated that 4-yr old Isaiah Thyme Morris’ death in a car crash in Vass Wednesday evening could have been due in part to improper use of his child car seat and improper installation of the seat as well. With so many vehicle accidents occurring in Moore County, please take a moment to review these child car seat safety measures:
Secure Installation: Anchor the seat as per manufacturer guidelines.
Right Position: Use the appropriate seat type and placement for the child's age and size.
Snug Harness: Ensure flat, untwisted straps with the chest clip at armpit level.
Regular Updates: Adjust for growth and check for wear or expiration.

The Moore County League of Women Voters has organized the 2023 Pinehurst Municipal Election Candidate Forum, taking place on October 17 at 6 p.m. The event will be held at Pinehurst Village Hall, located at 395 Magnolia Road, Pinehurst. Both mayoral and village council candidates will be represented.
